Wedding planning can be a daunting task! From contracts to timelines, design to logistics, and everything in between, you can easily get overwhelmed. We are here to help alleviate some of the confusion with some tips specific for weddings in Palm Beach.
We talked with awesome Palm Beach wedding planners and MIPB Family Members Christine Terezakis of Dreamday Weddings and Julieanne Salmon of Just Glam Events to create this great list of must know tips for the Palm Beach Couple.
1. Wedding Date
We are lucky to live in such a popular wedding location. Great weather, gorgeous locations, and tons of attractions! It’s great for locals and destination couples alike. So picking a wedding date can be tricky when it’s such a popular area.
We have “tourist season”, hurricane season, and a plethora of annual events and festivals hosted by various cities. All of which you need to take into consideration when picking your wedding date.
“Spring and fall bring the most pleasant weather to South Florida”, says Christine of Dreamday Weddings. “I’d say the best times to do a wedding here are late March, April, May and late September, October, and November. Book your wedding date as early as possible, as certain dates will be very popular.” We absolutely agree!
2. Venue Selection
There are over 100 wedding venues in Palm Beach County. From hotels and country clubs, to theaters and art galleries, to baseball stadiums and zoos, there’s something for everyone around town. So how in the world do you choose?
Start with your guest list. How many guests are you expecting to attend your big day? Christine of Dreamday Weddings recommends “choosing a venue that’s sized to give your guests a nice balance of comfort and intimacy.”
“Focusing on the big picture will be a huge step in narrowing down the perfect location for your wedding”, says Christine. Whether you dream of a wedding weekend filled with tons of events or one-day shebang, picking the venue based on your vision will make the decision easier.
3. Beach Wedding
Palm Beach is crazy popular for beach weddings. They are relaxing, laid-back, and oh-so Florida. You can choose between a beach wedding ceremony or hosting the whole celebration in the sand. Either way, hosting a beach wedding bound to be memorable.
“Remember that all beaches in the United States are public”, says Julieanne of Just Glam Events. “Because of that, you are bound to have a random tourist photobombing your wedding. Have a sense of humor about the possibility and ask your photographer about their ability to crop out the unwelcomed guest from photos”
Hosting your wedding at a beachfront resort or private residence will allow you to better secure the beach in order to keep your event private.
4. Room Blocks
When planning your wedding, you need to consider your guests coming from out-of-town. They won’t be as familiar with the area, so setting up room blocks at convenient hotels is a great way to accommodate them.
When selecting the hotel locations for your room blocks, there are two things to consider – distance to wedding venue and distance to local attractions. “Guests want to be near the action, so give them options that are close to fun places”, says Julieanne of Just Glam Events.
Julieanne also recommends “selecting two hotels – one at a lower price point and one at a higher price point. This way your guests can pick hotels that work within their budget.”
5. Weather Backup Plan
As any native Floridian can tell you, we maybe the Sunshine State but the weather can still be unpredictable. It can go from sunny skies to thunderstorms in a matter of minutes. Just a little perk of being in paradise 😉
As such, you have to be prepared with a weather backup plan. Those can range from moving the entire event indoors to setting up a tent to providing umbrellas for rain cover or shade.
“Most importantly, prepare for the backup plan before wedding day so that on wedding day, all you’ll have to do is decide whether or not to implement the plan”, recommends Christine of Dreamday Weddings.
6. Wedding License
After all your wedding planning and hard-work, you can’t forget to make the marriage legal. Luckily, getting your marriage license in Palm Beach County is a straight-forward process.
Florida is interesting in that wedding officiants don’t only have to be judges or members of the clergy. “You can have any of your friends perform the service as long as they register as a notary with the state. It’s a great option for couples looking for a more personalized ceremony”, says Julieanne of Just Glam Events.
7. Have Fun!
If you pick the right partner, wedding planning will be a once in a lifetime event so don’t forget to have fun!
