It is said that music is the rhythm of life. So, it comes as no surprise that music plays an integral part on your Palm Beach wedding day. From the ceremony to the reception, your wedding music choices should reflect you as a couple.
But how do you go about picking the right music for your big day? We spoke with awesome Palm Beach Wedding DJ, MIPB Family Member Parisi Events to learn some tips and tricks for creating the perfect wedding playlist!
1. Cater to the Group
If you want to keep your dance floor packed, start with songs that are popular amongst your group. Consider having a line on your RSVP cards where guests can request a song. This is an easy way to discover what music your guests want.
“Of course, your personal favorite songs should be included! But even if your favs aren’t super popular, we will try to work them in,” says Rob of Parisi Events. “We suggest selecting 10-15 favorite songs or artists to get the list going.”
2. Go Popular, Then Favorites
When working on your playlist, you’ll want to start the night with genres that the majority of your guests will enjoy. If you have an older group, this may mean playing some older songs before moving into the more contemporary stuff.
Rob of Parisi Events states, “As the night moves along, usually the group dissipates. This is the time to move into the genres that are better suited for a smaller group, such as EDM.”
3. Formality Songs
There are certain wedding reception formalities that require picking certain songs. Wedding party entrance, first dance, parent dances, and cake cutting all need some fun music played by your Palm Beach Wedding DJ.
“If you are stuck on picking specific songs for those moments, we have an app that we can send you,” says Rob of Parisi Events. “It’s the perfect tool for recommending songs for those special times.”
4. Classic vs Contemporary Ceremony
You can never go wrong with the traditional wedding songs. Those will be classic and beautiful for your ceremony. Here are some popular options.
Traditional Wedding Ceremony Songs
- “Ave Maria” (F. Schubert)
- “Clair de Lune” (C. Debussy)
- “Gymnopedie” (A.E.L. Satie)
- “L’inverno” from the Four Seasons (A.Vivaldi)
- “Arioso” (J.S. Bach)
- “Meditation from Tais” (J. Massenet)
Traditional Wedding Ceremony Processional Songs
- “Canon in D” (J. Pachelbel)
- “Trumpet Voluntary” (J. Clark)
- “Trumpet Tune” (H. Purcell)
- “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” (J.S. Bach)
- ”March” from Occasional Oratorio (G.F. Handel)
- “Prelude in C” (J.S. Bach)
- “Rondeau” (J.J. Mouret)
Traditional Wedding Ceremony Recessional Songs
- “La Primavera” from the Four Seasons (A.Vivaldi)
- “The Wedding March” from A Midsummer Night’s Dream (F. Mendelssohn)
- “Allegro Maestoso” from Water Music (G.F. Handel)
If you want to go for a contemporary twist, consider picking your favorite song in an instrumental version. This will lend the song to feeling classic without being obvious.
“The most popular contemporary ceremony songs change from year to year and from wedding to wedding,” says Rob of Parisi Events. “But one thing they always have in common is that they mean something to the couple.”
5. Do Not Playlist
Just as important as the playlist, is the do not play list. This is a group of songs or artists that no matter how many requests your Palm Beach Wedding DJ gets, they won’t be played. These can range from “The Chicken Dance” to songs that remind you of an ex.
Rob of Parisi Events states, “We want to make sure your day is filled with only good memories, so playing songs that you’ve put on the Do Not Playlist is not an option. Please take the time to let us know these songs.”
6. Trust Your Palm Beach Wedding DJ
After all the work of putting the ideal playlist together, it’s time to hand it over. Your Palm Beach DJ will make sure that all your favorites are included throughout the day. However, you have to trust them when it comes time to switch it up.
”We will read the crowd and make sure the dance floor is lit and can easily change up the playlist in the moment to fit what the crowd is enjoying” says Rob of Parisi Events.
7. Hora Loca and Other Cultural Traditions
If you have any specific cultural traditions to weave into your reception, make sure to include them on your playlist! Whether it’s music for the Hora, Sangeet, or Hora Loca, you want to make sure your favorites are included.
Rob of Parisi Events states, “We have lots of music for various cultural wedding traditions, but want to make sure we have your favorites on deck!”
These are just some of the tips and tricks to making the playlist for your Palm Beach Wedding. We love that Parisi Events is so well-versed in all things music! Check them out on our list of Palm Beach Wedding DJs.
