Engagement Sessions are a great opportunity to get comfortable with your Palm Beach photographer while also getting some amazing photos of you and your fiancé.
Since your Palm Beach engagement photos will become a keepsake, you should strive to make them the best photos ever. Tell your love story and be creative. If you had your first date at the waterfront, head down to Flagler for your session. If you love college football, head to your team’s stadium or rock your team colors. There are so many options!
One thing you can’t ignore is your outfit choices! We sat down with MIPB Family Member Photographer Olga Padron of Scribbled Moments Photography to discuss how to Palm Beach couples can best dress for their engagement photos. She had some amazing ideas!!
Big thanks goes out to Scribbled Moments Photography for sponsoring this article and in general being awesome. Now check out her tips for picking the best outfits for your Palm Beach engagement session.
1. Picking the Perfect Outfit
“I always say photo sessions are a great time to truly showcase outfits and wardrobe options that you never wear in everyday life. Glam it up, ruffle it up, sleek, modern, vintage, dazzle, provoke, tease, intrigue, overwhelm the audience, impress, astonish everyone…” says Padron of Scribbled Moments Photography.
We couldn’t agree more! Really use this opportunity to wow your fiancé and those that will be seeing the photos. You can’t go wrong with a wow outfit!
2. Bring One Dressy and One Casual Outfit
We love when couples have two outfits for their Palm Beach engagement session! This allows for more personality to shine through.
Padron from Scribbled Moments Photography suggests, “one dressy outfit, and one casual outfit. Here’s the thing – the casual outfit is actually way dresser than you would normally wear, but more like a sophisticated illusion to your everyday wear. So it’s more like really dressy and still dressy” That is, in my honest and truest opinion, how to style a portrait that you will fall in love with for years to come.”
3. Steer Clear of These Items
Though the love between you and your fiancé is really what your Palm Beach photographer wants to capture, there are specific clothing choices that will deter from that.
Here’s list of items to avoid:
- Stripes and Patterns: they draw attention away from your face
- Turtle Necks: they make the neck seem nonexistent
- Loose or Large-Fitting Clothing: they make the body seem wider than it is
- Faded Clothing: they could make the photos seem faded
- Shirts with Graphics:
- Short or Capris: they have a tendency to make legs appear shorter
- Running Shoes, White Socks, or Heavy Footwear: opt instead for fashionable boots, sandals, boat shoes (such as Sperrys), or bare feet
“As a general rule, wear solid colors. Dark pants or jeans with dark shoes give texture and visually anchor the portrait,” says Padron from Scribbled Moments Photography.
She continues on to say, “When choosing color schemes, consider not only what looks best on you, but also what colors will look best on wall portraits and complement your home’s décor.”
4. Don’t Overlook Hair and Makeup
“If you are investing in professional photography, you need to go all the way to be picture perfect. The camera and lights pickup on everything, so pamper yourself and prepare 100% for your session!” states Padron from Scribbled Moments Photography.
This is great advice that we totally agree with! Use your Palm Beach engagement session as a test run for your wedding day hair and makeup trial. You’ll get a great preview for your wedding day and see how the look photographs. Also, consider scheduling a date night after to really make the most out of being dolled up 😉
5. Bring Extra Hairspray
It goes without saying, but we are in South Florida and it can be crazy windy! Even if you aren’t on the beach make sure to bring some extra hairspray just in case.
“Hair spray… it’s your best friend against the wind. Please keep in mind to hairspray or style your hair in such a method that there are no “fly-aways” with your hair style. We want you looking your best, able to pose with ease,” says Padron from Scribbled Moments Photography.
6. Clean Up Your Ring
Padron from Scribbled Moments Photography advises that, “you want your gorgeous ring to shine brightly when we are using our up-close, gets-everything-in-the-picture-ridiculously-well macro camera lens. It will show any wear and tear easily, so we want to make sure your ring is perfection from the moment you arrive.”
While you are at it, make sure your nails are looking fresh as well! Consider getting a manicure before your photos to make sure your hands are ready for your Palm Beach engagement session.
