A Note from the Couple
We asked the couple to tell us about their planning and budgeting process, and this is what they had to say:
When it comes to planning a wedding- you really have no idea the thought and effort it takes to plan one until you have to. When you say you have a budget, sticking to that and finding quality vendors and unique finds is hard to accomplish.
In my head, I didn’t want to spend more than $20,000 but that becomes an understatement when you actually start planning what you want in your wedding. However, the vendors we loved were WELL worth the investment. We were able to find vendors that were an equal balance of quality and budget! The one thing I can say is for vendors- you are working with these people for months and it’s better to pay for the people you want to work with than to find someone within budget who isn’t absolutely GREAT to work with.
The Venue: Abacoa Golf Club and Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse
We searched for a venue for a year ranging from Mexico to the Florida Keys. We visited about 17 venues before finally deciding to go meet with Abacoa Golf Club. We didn’t really want a very local wedding, but after viewing the what felt like 100’s of venues- Abacoa met all of our expectations in our own backyard. Everything was included in their budget (except cake), and they didn’t nickel and dime you on every fee. They were very flexible in anything that you wanted to do and honestly the best priced venue in our area. The Photographer: Jodi Fjelde Photography
All of the photographers we looked at range in price very much. They always say that you want to budget a little more for them- and this is the best advice that I can pass on. Jodi was everything we could of dreamed of and then some. She was very thorough, a pleasure to work with, and just seemed to fall in love with you after every picture she took. She helped make our wedding feel warm and loving. Not to mention, her pictures were AMAZING! We were speechless once we saw them. The DJ: Vision DJ
We wanted a professional and well-rounded DJ who knew who to read the crowd. Our budget was around $1200 and we found just that with Vision DJ’s. They were about $1300 but once they told us about the LED Robot they can supply for an extra $500- we didn’t hesitate to say no! They were very on top of everything, and each person I spoke with in the company was very pleasant to work with. The LED Robot stole the show and is actually a real crowd pleaser especially with the older crew. They were in awe!The Musician: Ed Horowitz
We didn’t account for ceremony music originally because we knew we wanted to a DJ for cocktail hour and the reception. We thought about just playing some music through the speaker during the ceremony- but the Jupiter Lighthouse gave us some vendor recommendations with Ed Horowitz in there. He was one of our first vendors booked and well worth it! Everyone at the wedding raved about him, and he plays beautifully! The Wedding Coordinator: Harmon Events
Between our reception coordinator, the Lighthouse coordinator, and our photographer- I didn’t think I would really need a day of coordinator. I WAS WRONG! My wedding wouldn’t have been anywhere close to as awesome as it was without Harmon Events. Natalie and her team were just amazing! I hired them very last minute (two weeks before the wedding), and they took every request I sent them with a smile. They set everything up beautifully and I could not have asked for more from them! They weren’t included in my original budget- but I am so happy I hired them! The Beauty: Uniique Image + Trial and Mobile Spa Services
While I did budget for professional hair + makeup, the one thing I didn’t add to my budget was monthly facials. Making sure that I was looking healthy and my skin was glowing on the wedding day was worth it. 6 months before the wedding I was having horrible breakouts and not taking the best care of my skin. Laura from Mobile Spa Services is just incredible. She taught me how to better care for my skin, body, and mind (marriage tips!) and by time the wedding rolled around- my skin was looking fabulous!
(in the budget breakdown I put just one month at $100 a session, but I did it a few months leading to the wedding). There’s always going to be bumps in the wedding road, but at the end of the day we had our loving family and friends with us in one spot and that’s all we can really ask for. Memories are worth much more!
